Part I
I think that this was my most successful for this week's assignment. For this project, I chose to emulate the work of Ezra Stoller. He was an architectural photographer that has an extensive body of work focusing on modern architecture, industrial architecture, and corporate architecture. His photos are all black and white, like many architectural photographs of the time period, in order to prevent color from taking away from the form and structural details of the architecture. He also incorporates surroundings of buildings that he photographs to tell a story and give context about the buildings that he photographs. I feel that my photograph attached above uses both of those techniques very well. Although color is always nice in a photograph, using black and white allows the viewer to focus on the building. Additionally, I think that the trees present in the foreground give good context on the building's surroundings.
I thought that perspective control was especially difficult for me with this project. Taking pictures of city buildings, it is difficult not to just have a bunch of low perspective images. Ezra Stoller uses a couple of other perspectives pretty often in his work as well, so I did try to find ways to vary a little bit.
One way that I found to approach the low perspective issue is through the editing software that I have. It has some control in adjusting perspective, and moving forward, I will be looking into that software a little bit more to see how editing my photos can help to enhance them.
Part II
Hey Ryan! I really like what you did with this project. I thought that all three images were interesting, but the one that you chose as your favorite is really unique, and I think that makes it great in itself. This is not what I would consider conventional photography at all, and it reminds me of an abstract painting in a way, even acting as a commentary on art. Additionally, I thought that the photo was was well done. The colors are visually appealing, and the composition makes me question how it was made. Great work!
Hey Adam, I think you did a very good job at emulating Ezra Stoller's work. The angles you used to capture the architecture where spot on and the black and white certainly adds depth to the photographs.
